Drawing from a large repertoire of standards, swing and jazz classics and original material, Grammy nominated composer JC Hopkins and his Biggish Band is like no other. The band and its members have played such venerable venues as The White House, The Rainbow Room, The Blue Note, The Jazz Standard and Lincoln Center.
The band features top jazz musicians and great vocalists. "Finest musicians in the city" says the NY Times. Past singers for the group have included Norah Jones, Martha Wainwright, Justin Bond and Madeleine Peyroux.
The band goes from a trio to a full fourteen piece big band featuring male and female vocals depending on your needs. And to add a little spice to your event the band performs with a dazzling array of classic burlesque stars.

JC Hopkins Biggish Band featuring Queen Esther
JC Hopkins’ Biggish Band creates a special alchemy of Americana jazz. Underneath a Brooklyn Moon features the vocals of Queen Esther, plus a deeply pedigreed group of supporting players that includes Patience Higgins (Savion Glover) and Claire Daly on saxophone, Warren Smith (Miles Davis, Van Morrison, Aretha Franklin), on vibraphone, and Vincent Chancey (Sun Ra Arkestra) on French horn,
among others. Songwriters include Madeleine Peyroux and Norah Jones.
Acoustic guitar and haunting lap-steel open Athens By Night, moving smoothly into the intricate "Superglue" which cooly assesses a lying, obsessive love. Baroque "Diva Antipathy" is a soaring tapestry of classic and folk instrumentation. Hopkins' work with Barbara Manning, particularly on "Abigail" and "Can't Apologize," reveals a playfulness, and an uncommon honesty. "Emission in Blue" finds poet Pete Simonelli reading his gravelly ode to love over the beatnick strains of bongos and saxophones. The trumpet heard throughout the record evokes at times a lone voice and at others a Beatle-esque brassiness. Tying it all together are the velvet-crooned lyrics and natural melodies of JC Hopkins.
